A net against birds

Bird Net – Effective Protection of Your Harvest from Feathered Pests

A flock of starlings can cause significant damage to a crop in just a matter of minutes, leading to substantial financial losses. To chase birds away, gardeners often use scarecrows, hang shiny objects, or employ noise devices and recordings of predatory bird calls, but these measures rarely yield the desired result. A guaranteed way to protect your harvest is to use a garden bird net – a mesh covering with small openings.

This mesh agrotextile is made from UV-stabilized polypropylene, plastic, or PVC using an exclusive extrusion and stretching technology.

Bird netting is used in vegetable farming, horticulture, and municipal services to protect gardens, orchards, homes, and various areas.

There are several key advantages to buying bird netting:

  • high effectiveness – creates a reliable physical barrier for birds;
  • lightweight – does not weigh down trees or break branches;
  • elasticity – the net conforms to the shape of the tree or bush, without hindering growth and development;
  • environmentally friendly – contains no toxic substances;
  • safe – does not harm birds or the environment;
  • durable – made from strong material that is not damaged by ultraviolet radiation, precipitation, or chemicals, and is resistant to insects, stretching, and tearing;
  • suitable for multiple use;
  • easy installation – it is simple to put on and remove.

Because of its elasticity and flexibility, bird netting for trees is easy to install on berry bushes, grapevines, and cherry trees. Moreover, it does not harm birds or affect plant growth and development. The net freely lets air, rain, and sunlight pass through—essential for photosynthesis—and allows bees unrestricted access to blossoms for pollination.

You should buy bird netting to protect:

  1. the harvest – it shields plants from damage and the consumption of berries, fruits, and vegetables;
  2. property – prevents birds from entering attics, storage facilities, terraces, balconies, and even cars, keeping them free from feathers, droppings, and other debris;
  3. animals – protects apiaries, fish ponds, poultry farms, and snail farms from wild birds that can harm domestic animals and often carry diseases.

A bird net for protecting cherry trees is especially popular since this crop suffers the most from feathered pests. However, it is also used to cover other fruit trees like sour cherries, plums, pears, and apples. The net will also protect berry plantations: grapes, strawberries, garden strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, currants (both red and black), and blueberries. This mesh textile reliably shields berry crops from starlings, sparrows, crows, jackdaws, and thrushes.

Choosing the right tree netting against birds will keep your fruit from damage and help you maximize profits from horticulture.

When selecting bird netting, pay attention to:

  • material – polyethylene and polypropylene nets are the strongest; they do not tear or rot;
  • color – green and black products are the most popular as they are almost invisible and blend harmoniously with the garden’s exterior;
  • density – the higher the density, the stronger the material but the lower the light transmission;
  • mesh size – the smaller the openings, the more reliable the protection;
  • length and width of the rolls – chosen based on the area you need to protect.

How to Install the Net?

To protect shrubs, simply cover them with the net and secure the edges with stakes or tighten them with a plastic tie. To throw a bird net over trees, fix one edge to a support, then pull the other edge over the crown. Next, tie the net to the trunk with twine. If multiple nets are combined, make sure there are no gaps between them through which birds could enter.

Over grapevines, the mesh textile is stretched between posts and wires. Before covering strawberry beds, you should first construct a frame by installing hoops.

To ensure the bird net provides long-lasting protection, proper care is essential. Regularly clean the net of dust and debris, and repair any damage or tears. At the end of the season, remove it and store it in a dry place.
