Honeysuckle is a berry of discord
The Global Berry
Congress recognized a new exotic berry - honeysuckle.
By order of the
European Commission, honeysuckle is included in the official list of food
products in the EU, where it is called “haskap”.
Honeysuckle can be a niche berry crop,
with the main subject of discussion being the question of whether honeysuckle
has any prospects.
Non-representative
surveys of consumers in Ukraine show that most consumers have never heard of
such a berry.
However, among those
who have tried it, there are many who are delighted with the taste qualities of
this berry.
In addition, it is the earliest bush
berry that appears on the market.
Processors also show
a certain cautious interest in the berry.
In particular, dairy farmers believe
that using honeysuckle as a filler for yogurts can attract attention, because
it can be a certain novelty and a way to stand out from the crowd. However, not
everyone agrees that honeysuckle should cost more than blueberries, and this is
often the basis of the business plans of those who plant it.
Another argument in
favor of honeysuckle is the high popularity of this berry in Canada, where
“Honeysuckle Days” are even held.
and there are large companies that grow
more than 200 hectares of these berries each. And Canadians often advertise it
with the slogan “better than blueberries.”
Honeysuckle
supporters have many reasons to consider this berry more valuable than
blueberries - its fruits contain twice as much vitamin A, three times as much
iron and phosphorus, four times as much calcium, etc.
